What determines health?
40% - your zip code
40% - lifestyle
15% - clinical healthcare
10% - environment

This area is the 2nd healthiest 5-County region in the state, but there’s not a lot of equity between the counties. Leelanau the healthiest in the state…Kalkaska and Atrium not as healthy.

But, it’s necessary to consider this in context of the state. Michigan is ranked 34th healthiest state in the country. We are the 8th worst in terms of opioid addiction. Access to healthcare outside of Grand Traverse is not so easy. Being rural affects our health and well-being. Michigan had the lowest birthrate since 1944. There are lots of aging seniors in Michigan. Obesity is an issue worldwide, and we are all about 30% overweight.

How are we addressing these issues?
Access:
  • Transportation
  • Tele-healthcare
Culture of Health:
  • Promoting fundraising for those who are doing well
  • Education, much like Jesse did with us by presenting.
Health Technology:
  • Telehealth
  • Records and data
  • Fitness and other apps that help us personally manage health
  • Chronic disease management
  • Artificial intelligence for health
  • Remote patient monitoring
We can…
  • Be proactive about managing your own health and health data
  • Behavior/Choice
Culture of health – health is something we talk about in this region and it is a shared value. How do we encourage visitors to feel the same about TC as a healthy destination?
