Upcoming
Membership Committee - Next month is Oktoberfest – Bring a Guest month. Our President Gary has set a goal of taking our club to 75 members. During the month of October, we’ll have special Oktoberfest related giveaways. Each week, all members who bring a guest will get a gift. Members will also get one entry into an end of month drawing, for each guest they bring during October.

Community Service - We have a new recurring volunteer opportunity at the State Theatre. The 2nd Thursday of every month, our club will staff the State Theatre. We only need a minimum of 4 volunteers each month. The shift only lasts about 90-120 minutes. Please see Kyle Konas or Alex Zelinski to sign up!

Joe Conger - Missar.org Every Sons of the American Revolution member has a patriot ancestor. Did you know the eighth honorary citizen of the USA, is Bernardo Galvez?

The Spanish involvement in the American Revolution is not well known, but very important to history. Historians didn’t care as much for them due to choices made by Spain thereafter. Spain was focused on keeping trade open and provided leadership and resources to early America. Our dollar sign $ was derived from the Spanish coat of arms. Early Spaniards were taxed to give money to the states.

Galvez fought in an amazing number of battles with the states. Created for saving New Orleans by attacking the British in Pensacola first. He lead the longest battle of the Revolutionary War – two months. Spain’s influence kept secret. A statue of he and his mount are only one of four in DC.
