Megan Kelto – Crooked Tree Arts Center, www.paintgrandtraverse.com

Megan shared a brief overview of Crooked Tree Arts Center in Traverse City – their current shows and class offerings, but her main purpose in speaking today was to share more about the upcoming “Paint Grand Traverse” plein air painting event.

Building on the successful plein air event last year, Crooked Tree is now planning on an annual event mid-August that they would like to make a national destination for plein art painting. Much like many of our other regional festivals, this event has the potential of bringing in people from across the nation who appreciate what Traverse City and the surrounding area has to offer. Megan highlighted some of the artists she is most excited about having participate this year. A full listing is available at www.paintgrandtraverse.com

In addition to the opportunity for artists to compete for prizes, and for spectators to watch and purchase their work at the end of the week, this event has interactivity and arts education components. Megan invited all of us and those we know who might be interested to find an opportunity to get involved be it as a spectator volunteer or participate in a class. Specifically, the opportunity to be an ambassador/greeter or a housing host might be a fit for our membership.

If you are looking for educational activities for children up through 8th grade, consider Crooked Tree’s spring break arts camp.
