Kingsley Student Council –  Food Pantry
The Student Council started the pantry in 2016 – fully supplied and managed by the Student Council. 36% of their high school student body is on reduced lunches and probably should be closer to 50% due to lack of returned paperwork. Student Council wanted to make the pantry more accessible by having it right on the campus. Our Rotary Mini-Grant helped them purchase a mini fridge and additional food items that are rarely donated during the food drive. The pantry serves students throughout the day and after school, as well as families are directed to the food pantry. The students shared with us photos of the actual food pantry. They’ve learned that there is a huge need for afterschool food options and they work in partnership with the United Methodist Church to serve the Kingsley community. They’ve also learned that single serve items are the most utilized by students. They shared a story of academic success due to better nutrition.
