Suggestions included things such as toothbrushes/floss/toothpaste from dentist office visits, shampoo/soap when traveling etc. A small basket will be available at our meetings where you may place these donated items.
Special Presentation
We installed Nathan Hoard, Kip Nickel and Kimberly Purdy as our newest members at our December 9th meeting. Dana is also an 'official' member but she has schedule conflicts 12/9 and 12/16! We'll catch up with her upon her return. WELCOME!! Please take the time to get to know these great additions to our club and help them find a way to become involved.
Star Musicians
On December 2nd the Central High School Choral-Aires performed for our club. They had an amazing mix of both seasonal and sacred songs. This was a wonderful way to get our members in the spirit of the season!
The Journey to Eagle Scout
Our December 9th speaker was Ryan Kriesch, District Director of Michigan Crossroads Council of Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Ryan is a life-long scout. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout, served as a camp counselor for 8 years, received his degree in Recreational Leadership at Ferris, and now serves in leadership capacity for BSA. He shared a fabulous video created by an Elk Rapids Scout, Ryan Quinlan, that chronicled his journey through scouting and culminated in achieving Eagle Scout rank, the highest available in BSA. (2% of scouts nationally earn Eagle Scout; locally 4% achieve that rank.) His Eagle Scout project was the installation of wooden wood duck boxes at Petabego pond.
Ryan said that scouting is growing financially, and there's no shortage of young men who want to play in the woods with knives, sticks and fires. Their greatest need is for volunteer support that will work with the scouts as mentor/leaders during their journey.
