The Elk's Club staff (Chef Andy, Banquet Mgr Terri and server) was thanked for their service this year.
|
Terri Kuhlman (Elks Lodge Banquet Manager) was named an honorary member of the Club, and she was also named a Paul Harris Fellow! Terri has (literally) served us throughout our club's 16+ year history. We would be lost without her. |

Our fabulous exchange students |
The Youth Exchange committee provided an update. Lindsay let the Club know that the committee works as a joint committee of the three Traverse City Rotary Clubs, working to sponsor inbound and outbound students, and also to recruit host families. The committees's mission is to spread peace. She encouraged members to serve as a host family. You can also be an exchange counselor. Free training is offered if you are interested.
Lindsey mentioned that the committee is considering including the Elk Rapids Rotary club which has supported youth exchange in the past, but has had a hard time sustaining the program individually.
We have three inbounds this year, and six students have been approved as outbounds for the 2016-2017 year. We also host "rescue" students, which are students that have been approved as inbounds but, due to unforeseen circumstances, have a host club no longer able to fulfill its commitment. The inbound students gave brief updates on what they have learned so far. The outbounds also gave brief bios and updates on where they want to go and why. Darren gave us a quick update on what he's been up to.
Abby Raetz (Linda's daughter) presented on her exchange to Kalmar, Sweden. The city population is approximately 60,000 and is located about five hours south of Stockholm. She had many great experiences and learned a lot. Her year in Sweden opened many doors for her and made her more open to new experiences.
