Holiday social gatherings!

We won't have a regular meeting on Wednesday, December 30th, but for those that just can't stand a Wednesday morning without Sunrise Rotary energy, join us at the Omelette Shoppe 1209 E. FRONT STREET at 7:30 for a no host breakfast.

Serving our Club

Serving this club as its President was a true privilege, so I can't tell you how disappointed I was to learn that, in spite of multiple asks, we are still without anyone willing to serve as Treasurer or as our future Club President (2017 - 2018).

We are required by Rotary International to report the results of our club elections by the end of this month. This is potentially the first time in our 16 year history that we will miss that deadline.

Rotarians are busy people. Trust me, I get it. But Rotarians are also people who always rise to the occasion when asked.

Anyone who steps into a club leadership role in our club, and in Rotary in general, is backed by an outstanding team of those who have gone before. We are all pledged to provide support when needed and, through the larger world of Rotary, there is no shortage of available resources to help. There are no 'pre-requisites' for the job other than having a passion for the club, and a desire to help us succeed. And while we can certainly accept the offer of those that have led before, our hope has always been that those who haven't yet served will be inspired to lead.

We are at a historical peak in membership, where anything we dream of should be possible and the only thing limiting us is our imagination. Why wouldn't you want to be part of leading us on that journey?!

Bulletin Buddy Note-Taking Form (also at front desk)

At any time don't be surprised if a new member offers to bump a designated Bulletin Buddy for 50/50 sales or note-taking opportunities. We know you will happily step aside to enable their progress against new member orientation program (red badge).

If you wish to be added to the rotation please contact Nancy Thornton.

If a date you've been assigned is not convenient, we appreciate your initiative to exchange with a fellow Rotarian.

Meeting Notes & Announcements

Guests
Marty and Kristine McNabb (guests of George), Chris Rogers (prospective member), Bob Eichenlaub

Visiting Rotarians:
Don Breadon (TC Noon), a frequent visitor who made a donation for Backpacks for Kids

50/50  Winner:
Chris Rogers was the lucky winner . . . nice way to be coming into the club !

Announcements:
  1. Inbound exchange student Vanessa needs a second host family. Please see Linda or Lindsey if you have suggestions.
  2. We are still seeking candidate for President Nominee and Treasurer - both positions would begin July 1, 2016 and have a three and two year commitment respectively. Both President Craig and President Elect Linda made a personal appeal to our membership. Our club membership is at a historic high . . . this is NOT the time for us to have no one willing to serve.
Feeding and Clothing Our Neighbors in Need

Our guest speaker was Gini Claudepierre from Acme Christian Thrift Store and Food Pantry (ACTS), a recent recipient of one of our club foundation mini-grants.

ACTS was incorporated as a Michigan non-profit corporation on May 7, 2002 to fill a critical need among the working poor, single mothers, transients and other disadvantaged people who live in Antrim, Grand Traverse and Kalkaska counties by providing thrift store donated merchandise at reasonable prices and by operating a food pantry.

In 2015 they have fed over 3,700 families by allowing them to stop in twice a week for up to 2 bags of groceries each time.

They started this mission working out of a supplies closet and, through the years, have grown significantly and they now own a new building which is a renovated strip mall located on M-72 by Elk Lake Road.

Our foundation mini-grant was pooled with additional funding and helped them secure a new truck to help with their pickups and deliveries. As Gini put it, we're helping keep her husband safe because in the past, there were times you could see the road through the floor, and needed a caution triangle on the back of the trailer as if it were an Amish buggy.
ACTS can always use more volunteers, especially in leadership positions (resale store manager, receiving area manager, maintenance manager). They are open Tues-Saturday, 10-5PM for donations.
