Guest Speaker: Marty Colburn, Traverse City’s new City Manager and long-time Rotarian
Mr. Colburn was born and raised out west, but married a native Michigander. He has been in the City Management business for over 20 years, most recently as the City Manager for Mason, MI. He has been in Traverse City as manager for just over three and a half months. He is currently focused on the transfer of the former Coal Dock, strategic planning for the transfer of power that will result from the upcoming city elections, disassembly of dams along the Boardman, learning the “in’s and outs” of TCL&P. He also oversees the police, fire department and emergency services. His biggest challenge is finding a balance between all of the elements necessary to keep a city working. He served in the Army so he adheres to the belief that a good leader “serves his people first, himself second.” His greatest challenge will be to organize and prioritize. He thinks our greatest resource is our abundant natural resources.
