What you missed
January 16, 2019
Maureen Madion and Laura Ness shared the history of one of Michigan’s very few municipal ski parks. On the verge of closing, so started a community effort. It all started with sharing the concern with children and resulted in a book created by these kids. It has been an amazing community effort to create awareness which led to our community being ready to jump on fundraising efforts when they presented themselves.

As a result, the space has been expanded with new amenities: a new lodge, disc golf, Nordic trails, tubing area with rentals etc. The new lodge has a brand new commercial kitchen and opportunity to rent the lodge for events. Plans for expanded trails and snow-making equipment along with a single-track bike trail. This will allow the park to own signature events in the future and in turn allow the park to keep the proceeds. Maureen and Laura walked us through the new trails and learning areas.

Since re-opening this season, they have seen record attendance. Significant community support and donations continue to roll in – public support made the difference with the city and Hickory Hills lives on!
