December 5, 2018
Malawi Opportunity: Peter Raphael, Global Opportunities Chair, led the presentation on TC Sunrise Club’s commitment to the work in Malawi with partner Warm Hearts. This year’s trip is targeted for June 16-30th and will cost $4,000 per person.

Kathleen Guy then shared how Malawi became our club’s international signature service project and her personal experience with the trips she’s participated. This year she’s excited our team is adding two classrooms to the school that has been built.

Paul Brink, our local Warm Hearts partner, shared more specifically about the new school addition and how the school children will be around and involved during our club’s trip. Water wells are the basis of their work in any location because it is so vital to the health of the community. Now the organization has goats in four villages and is designed on the “pass on” model. The Days for Girls program is still a very active outreach.

Randy Kiessel then shared more about what daily life in Malawi was like and why he travels globally as a Rotarian. While the work is engaging, there are comforts of travel both with food and accommodations that make the experience easier for those who don’t travel well internationally. It’s a chance to see the lives of people despite their circumstances, it’s truly a culturally experience.

Kip Nickel closed by sharing the financial opportunity and the priority of being committed to the “international” part of Rotary International. He encouraged ways for involvement by all of us even if we are not able to travel on the trip.
