We are the People of Action Ed explained that Rotary has a Four Way test: 1. Is it the Truth? 2. Is it Fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendships? 4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned? He wanted to add an extra rule of number 5. Is it fun? District Governor Jim White brought light bulbs to each person in the district. Why? He wanted to have fun teaching the Rotarians how to save $100 a year by changing your incandescent light bulbs to LED's. And when you did this, you could donate your $100 to the Rotary Foundation. Every year the money that is donated to the Foundation is invested for 3 years. After three years the money is returned to the district to help fund club grants. These grants are doing the "fun" things that Rotarians like to support such as: Backpacks for Kids, Clean Water for Honduras, New schools for Malawi, and any other ideas that Sunrise Rotarians have. District Conferences allow Rotarians to connect, gain information and have fun with other Rotarians like the one in Roscommon on October 14th. National Conferences allow Rotarians to connect internationally to build relationships with other Rotarians. This year the conference is in Toronto in June. Because of these Rotarian connections that DG Ed Swart made, first he had an exchange student from India and when he attended the RI Conference in Atlanta his seatmate was from India. The three of them decided to raise money. What kind of things did students need in India? Well, the students of India sit on the cold floors to learn. This touched DG Ed heart and the three of them decided to raise $10k dollars for new desks between the two clubs. Once the three got going and through matching Rotary grants, they were able to raise $60,000 for new student desks. Now how is that for fun!
