If you haven't signed up yet please click on the Event name in left margin and indicate if you're available to join us for a fun night out on the town during TC Restaurant Week. We'll be atThe Franklin taking advantage of the special $25 menu (appetizer, entree, dessert -- beverages are separate). It's a great chance to bring family and friends for a fun, casual evening.
We're continuing our tradition of a fun silent auction and are donating the proceeds to the annual fund of Rotary Foundation to help our club maintain eligibility for grant applications. Check out this consolidated list of past donations and get your creative juices going!
If you'd like to contribute something to the auction please let Nancy know (nthornton@centos.net).
The Noon Club STRIVE (Students Taking Renewed Interest in the Value of Education) Committee is preparing for Career Day 2015 for the student body at Traverse City High School (NOTE: TC High is the base camp for the S.T.E.P. program we support). They are looking for 3-5 volunteers from our club to provide career exploration and community engagement for the youth at TC High. Feedback from last year highlighted that students felt valued because Rotarians wanted to spend time with them and listen to their career ideas. For many, it was their first step in considering future job paths and having positive experiences with business professionals. It is a highly valued experience to young adults in our community.
Leading up to Career Day, the club has partnered with Goodwill Northern Michigan to offer pre-vocational empowerment classes to students to prepare them for the event. At Career Day, Rotarians will be given a brief orientation, and then students will be paired to meet with Rotarians in a round-robin style Q&A with Rotarians. You will likely be asked questions about your particular field, but also be prepared to share some of your life experience and lend a listening ear.
Please consider signing up. The date is Wednesday, February 18th from 12:45 to 2:45 pm at Traverse City High School on 3 mile and Aero Park Drive. If you have further questions or would like to sign up, please contact Sakura Raftery at 231-995-7711 or sakurar@goodwillnmi.org.
The Noon Rotary Club will host Career Day for students at TC High School on Wednesday, February 18, and are in need of members to talk about their business experience. Event begins at 12:45 p.m. See related article in this newsletter.
Tim Gillen is coordinating our club's efforts to sell ads for the April Rotary Show. This is a 'profit-sharing' fundraiser -- whatever percentage of the ad sales are credited to our club will be returned to us from the net proceeds of the event. This is a significant opportunity for our club. Funds raised would be placed in our Foundation to support community service projects. Anyone that purchased an ad last year should have received renewal information via email. Tim will share details with us as they become available.
Service Project
Our members joined forces under Craig's leadership and decorated three chairs which are going to be donated to an upcoming, fundraising silent auction to benefit Habitat for Humanity. All chairs will be on display at Dennos Museum in late March and Habitat will be using photos to promote the event through their web-site and Facebook page. Our club's name will be promoted with each of the donated chairs. The event will be titled ReTooled and is scheduled for March 28th, 2015.
