We're excited to share the news that our Board of Directors has supported Membership Committee recommendation of three candidates for membership in our club. Their applications are provided via link below (requires your login due to private info).
Please review and share any comments/concerns with Sean, Nancy, or any member of the club board or membership committee.
What do Amy, Peter, Kathi, Jay (Berger), Linda, Nancy, Laura, Becky (Ewing), Tom Gilbert and George have in common? They're volunteers for the 2015 District Conference.
It's going to be an outstanding event that includes:
Young professionals summit
Host home dinners (Friday evening)
Breakout sessions on membership, Rotary's youth programs, public image, fundraising, Rotary from a young professionals perspective
International dinner on Saturday with 50/50 to benefit District 6290 Youth Exchange Scholarship program (which we administer)
Heart-wrenching polio survival stories and screening of "Shot Felt 'Round the World"
With Park Place Hotel as the venue there is really no reason not to go.
Guests: Terri Sheldon – TBAISD, Mike Livengood-West Middle School Teacher, Anwyn Livengood – IB student and Jacob Neuman – IB student
Visiting Rotarians: Tom Powers (TC Noon)
50/50: Steve McGregor was lucky winner of $26.
Announcements:
District Conference Committee is looking for 13 members to host an evening meal during the conference. If you can’t do that, please consider being a driver. See Nancy with questions.
George Powell from the noon club sent a note that there will be a pre-Rotary Show reception on April 22 at upstairs dining room of Red Ginger. Tickets are $50 (limited availability) and include refreshments & preferred seating at State Theatre. Please contact Sally at Rotary office if you're interested.
On a related note, save the date of Thursday April 23rd as our club's night to attend Rotary Show. We might choose to revise our location now that the show is at State Theatre. Suggestions for good walking distance venue?
Guest Speaker:
Terri Sheldon – TBAISD International Baccalaureate (IB) Program Specialist tsheldon@tbaisd.org
Terri outlined the history of IB and the current programming in this region made possible by a $3.3 million Kellogg Foundation Grant. The program is in its 2nd year of a three year program. Traverse City students were considered at risk due to economics and geographical isolation. This attracted Kellogg to invest in an education grant. The IB program is looking into grants to sustain the program after the initial grant ends.
Two students of the West Middle School IB Program, Anwyn Livengood and Jacob Neuman, spoke briefly of their involvement in and attraction to IB.
Many thanks to Craig for having organized two really fun off-site meetings while Elks Club addressed some renovations. If you weren't there, you missed:
March 11
Centre Ice where we learned all about the amazing progress being made by the Traverse City Curling Club. Val is on the board and Rich (a.k.a. D.W.) is hugely involved as instructor. We even had Val out there on the ice!
March 18
We were treated to breakfast by the chef at Cordia, and then had a behind the scenes tour of the 'club' where we got to see the wonderful amenities offered in this unique 'village.'
