Lindsey mentioned that Traverse City will host three inbound students in the upcoming year. We need three host families, one for each of the 3 - 4 month periods during the exchange. It's a terrific experience. If you are interested or know others that might be, please contact Lindsey or Linda.

Program - NMC Alumni Relations
Before the talk, Tim Nelson presented Melzar with an Associates Degree in Science and Arts. He also gave him a coin and told the story of the coin challenge where a prisoner narrowly escaped execution in Germany only to be imprisoned again in France where they thought he was a German spy. What saved him was a coin he kept in a pouch around his neck with the details of his unit included.
Betsy introduced the new Alumni program which has as one goal: life long learning. It is fairly common for NMC students to transfer to other universities but they still want to stay connected to where they started and the great experiences they had at NMC.
A few examples: Majida Halaweh, a Benzie Central grad that worked hard at NMC ended up at Princeton to study Physics. John Militello who was Head of Creative for Google ZOO and is now taking a key marketing position at Volvo. NMC was formed in 1951 and has around 44,000 alumni.
Betsy’s work involves meeting with and listening to alumni, helping promote NMC with events like the BBQ and Smart Commute, arranging Alumni gatherings, and conducting surveys and focus groups. She also puts out the Nor’Wester 3 times a year. If you want to help her, you can: agree to an alumni interview, serve on an alumni committee, participate in surveys and/or focus groups, or be a Mentor/Professor for a day.
