As you've heard at our meetings -- the 2015 District Conference will take place May 1 - 3 at Park Place Hotel. Traverse City will be overflowing with Rotarians because District 6400 (Detroit-area) is going to be out at Grand Traverse Resort!

The conference team really needs some of the TC-based Rotarians to step up for a range of volunteer jobs, many of which sound like they'd be lots of fun. Two areas in particular where we need some helpers:

Friday evening May 1st -- We need around 25 Rotarians willing to host a dinner at their house for between six and eight conference attendees. At last year's conference the Friday night dinners were one of the most popular activities. The conference budget will reimburse up to $25 per person to cover expenses. We need people willing to host, as well as others willing to partner with the hosts to provide transportation to/from Park Place to their home.

VIP 'Hosts' - We've got several Rotarians coming in to deliver keynote addresses as part of this event. These are truly cool people! It would take a huge load off the conference team's plate if they had someone serving as a 'host' for each VIP. As example, you might assist with getting them to/from the airport, make sure they have what they need while on site, be available for general support. In some cases the individuals are only there for a portion of conference.

If either/both of these sound like fun please let Nancy (nthornton@centos.net) know that you're interested so she can pass that along to the right people on the conference committee.

If you haven't signed up yet please click on the Event name in left margin and indicate if you're available to join us for a fun night out on the town during TC Restaurant Week. We'll be at The Franklin taking advantage of the special $25 menu (appetizer, entree, dessert -- beverages are separate). It's a great chance to bring family and friends for a fun, casual evening. Also a great event for prospective members!

We're continuing our tradition of a fun silent auction and are donating the proceeds to the annual fund of Rotary Foundation to help our club maintain eligibility for grant applications. Check out this consolidated list of past donations and get your creative juices going!

If you'd like to contribute something to the auction please let Nancy know (nthornton@centos.net). Need not be present to donate!

Guest Speaker: Conservation Resource Alliance – Healthy watersheds for a Healthy Environment. Our speakers were Matt Thomas- Director of Development & Casey Ressl- Annual Gifts Coordinator

In 1968, CRA was established with one goal - to preserve and protect northern Michigan’s waterways, wildlife, and forests for future generations.

Matt talked about how they restore and protect over 10,000 miles of rivers and diverse forests throughout 8 million acres in 13 counties of northern Michigan.

They focus on “River Care” which is restoring the stream connectivity. The River Care Program is designed to maintain the aesthetic and economic value of northern Michigan streams. How? By connecting people - interest groups, landowners, developers, and government agencies - anyone who can help and who will benefit from clean water and healthy watersheds.
Side Note: They are also the project contractors for the Boardman Dam Removal.
